You don’t have to follow the following fixes in sequential order. Rather, you can also try out any of these methods to solve the overheating issue.

Power Cycle Roku

Power cycling your Roku TV can be considered the primary method that can help in cooling down your systems.

  • If you receive a warning message such as “Your device is overheating” at the corner, quickly go and grab your Roku remote.
  • Switch off your Roku TV and remove the cables from the power socket.

  • Wait for atleast 10-20 minutes and plug in the cable again.
  • Now, turn on your Roku TV and check whether it is still overheating.

Improper Power Supply

Sometimes, the power fluctuations on the Roku TV might cause overheating issues. To avoid power surges and to prevent your TV from overheating, it is recommended that you connect and use a Surge Protector with your Roku TV.

Turn On the Sleep Timer on Roku

If your Roku device is turned on even when not in use, it may overheat. To prevent this, turn on the Sleep Timer on Roku. By setting a sleep timer, your Roku will turn off automatically after the set period, thus saving power and reducing overheating. To enable the sleep timer on Roku,

  • Go to Settings > System > Time > Sleep Timer > Select a time > Done.

Similar to Sleep Timer, you can also use Roku Power Saving Mode and Bandwidth Saver to power off your Roku TV automatically when not in use.

Clean Your Roku TV

You must frequently clean your Roku device to avoid settling small dust or debris on the Internal parts. Use an air blower to clean the dust particles in the internal parts of the TV.

Place Your Roku TV Away from Sunlight

Positioning your Roku TV in a spacious room is not a problem, but keeping it in a place with direct sunlight creates an issue. Because the rays of direct sunlight might heat up your device and damage its internal parts. To avoid this, place your Roku TV in a place without a direct sunlight.

Reduce Brightness

If you find the Roku TV screen overheating, then it might be due to the increase in brightness or improper backlight settings. To resolve this problem, moderately set the brightness on Roku and configure the backlight settings.

Remove External Devices

Keeping electronic devices away from the Roku TV is probably a fine option. However, if you have connected so many external devices to your Roku TV, it may cause an overheating issue. Remove the unused ones, and this will help you sort out the problem.

Use HDMI Extender for Roku Device

The Roku device is usually connected to the TV with an HDMI Cable. If the backport of the TV is not properly ventilated, then you will definitely find your device overheating. To avoid that, you can try using an HDMI extender to connect the cable. For your information, Roku offers a free HDMI extender during the purchase, allowing you to connect the Roku Streaming Stick and the TV separately.

Use HDMI Extender

Update RokuOS Firmware

According to expert recommendations, it is necessary to frequently update the Roku TV. Using your Roku TV with the oldest firmware can cause the TV to overheat at times. Follow the below procedure to overheat the Roku TV.

  • Head to the Settings option on the Roku TV’s home screen.
  • Scroll down and select the System option shown on the screen.
  • Click the System Update option and tap the Check Now option.
  • If there have been any recent updates, it will notify you about the available message. You will have to tap the Update Now option to start updating your Roku TV.

Contact Customer Support

Preventive Measures to Avoid Roku TV Overheating in the Future

  • Once a month, clean the vents of Roku TV to avoid dust accumulation. Also, keep the TV in air-conditioned room is an added benefit.
  • If you are a gamer who uses the Roku TV for a long time, then we recommend you use any Cooling Pad or Stand to neutralize the heat and avoid the overheating issue.
  • Regularly service and check the TV with the professionals’ help.
